Conduit 2 Wii Review

Possibly one of the few great Wii games out there to extend the life of the Wii for just a few more days.

The Conduit 2 is a sequel to The Conduit developed by High Voltage who also brought us Family Guy The Video Game, America's Army True Soldier among other titles across all platforms. The Conduit was a game best known for having some of the Wii's best graphics and trying to appeal to the hard core audience on the Wii. High Voltage software continues to perfect The Conduit with the release of The Conduit 2 and promises to take users for a ride that only few Wii titles have delivered. If any.
20249HVS_Conduit2_Wii_02
Sega has released Conduit 2 as a limited edition item which includes the following extras: Unlockable Gold Destroyer Armor, Unlockable Eye of RA ASE and an exclusive 44 page art book which shows the art of Conduit 2. These are nice extras but sometimes I wonder if Sega will release a regular version without the extras of if this is just some stunt to convince buyers to purchase the game. I will say that the case looks premium as it has holographic effects on both the front and back and the art book looks very solid and very well done. These are some nice extras but lets dive in to Conduit 2 and see if it's worth the paper it's printed on.

The Conduit 2 takes off where the first one left off which and those years of waiting for a sequel turns those years into minutes. Hardy any sequels out there take off within minutes of the first which is great for some, not so great for those who haven't played the first title. For the sequel you step back into the shoes of Michael Ford who is in a wild goose chase to catch John Adams (No relation to John Adams the second president of the US......maybe) the antagonist of the previous game. John Adams wants to exploit the alien race because he craves more power. Michael Ford's job is to stop him at all cost.
20626Conduit 2 E3_online1
Re-joining Ford is his ball of steel Promethius which acts like a Cortana to Master Chief. Promethis gives Ford information on the alien race as well as hints on what to do next and where to go throughout the game. Because levels are so long you are not told where to go constantly and what to do and in some cases it can be tricky to figure it out. Getting lost is pretty easy and when that happens you will probably want to trade Promethius for a Tom Tom.

The games plot takes you to many places around the world as you learn more and more about the alien race. Some of the places you will be exploring will be an oil rig located in the Bermuda Triangle, Washing DC, China, Siberia, etc. You will also face some enemies from the first game as well as new ones from Aliens to Humans to what robots who are constantly picking at your feet.
21791Conduit2_screen1
One of the games big improvements from the first is the enemy interaction when you haven't been spotted yet. This is also one of the game's biggest flaws because you can be standing in the middle of the room and the enemy will not notice you at all until you take a shotgun through one of the enemy's head. There are many events where the game does not make any sense at all. The biggest one is during the first Boss fight in the oil rig where a big Leviathan is destroying the rig and the riggers are trying to take you out instead of taking out the Leviathan. Seriously there is this giant snake that is killing and eating the riggers and all they can focus on is taking you out. The enemy also doesn't do a good job in hiding and will stand in the open most of the time. At this point it just becomes target practice for you.

The most annoying enemies though are the little ones which are hard to shoot and respawn constantly. These little bastards can be taken out by using a melee attack but doing so can leave you disoriented and swinging the Wii controller left and right will turn your player left and right without knowing if you hit the enemy. Another annoyance is how you throw grenades by shacking the nun-chuck attachment. First of all you cannot aim and you cannot tell where your grenades will land as shacking the nun-chuck will just throw the grenade with maximum force.
22367Conduit2_Jan_Screen_3
Conduit 2 supports the classic controller as well as the Wii-motion plus but if you can't shell out $15 for a used Wii-Motion plus add on don't worry you don't need one. Conduit 2 is a game that plays very well without any add ons. Unless you have shacky hands then you should have no problem controlling Conduit 2. I do wish though that the controller layout would be a bit different. For one I wish they would assign a button to throw grenades instead of just waving your hands around like an idiot and 2 I wish they would have a dedicated Crouch button instead of mixing it with the Run button. At times I found myself running instead of Crouching which is an instant kill for the enemy. If you don't fancy point and shoot controls you can always use the Classic Controller and use it as a regular FPS. The downside though is that it doesn't support the GameCube controller and I have 1 just sitting there doing nothing.

Graphics is where Conduit 2 shines and it doesn't disappoint (unless you have a PS3 and have played Killzone 3 then you will be disappointed) For what the Wii can handle it is great game in which the developers put a lot of detail into the characters and the environments. My favorite Boss of the game has to be the Leviathan because of how high tech it seems for a creature that lives on the sea. The character animation also moves smoothly and it hardly drops any frames. However as nice at it may seem, there are a few graphical problems here and there such as dead enemies disappearing and reappearing and other graphical corruptions. These don't really interrupt gameplay but it can catch you by surprise if this is your first time playing Conduit 2.
22366Conduit2_Jan_Screen_2
Most of the weapons from the previous game also make an appearance as well as some new ones. All weapons have different stats but there is a weapon for everyone to enjoy. My favorite weapons were the SCAR Assault Rifle and the Hive Cannon which is similar to a machine gun only alive and moving. There are also Sniper Rifles, Shoguns, Pistols, Rocket Launchers and Grenades. All weapons handle very differently but because of the amount of enemies showing up as well as the smaller ones you will need something that will not run out of bullets quickly but you will also need a gun which can help you take out Snipers and that's where the Hive Cannon and Scar Assault Riffle come in handy.

Conduit 2 may have great action and graphics but it's all brought down by the voice work which makes it sound like a B movie instead of a BlockBuster movie. You will hear cheesy one liners as well as bad dialogue between cutscenes. The music also doesn't help either because it makes it sound like more of a thriller instead of an action game. It won't ruin your game experience but it will definitely leave a dent.
22364Conduit2_Jan_Screen_10
Single Player can be completed in 5 hours however Conduit 2 features all sorts of human interactions when you are no longer playing single player. You can go online and challenge up to 12 people per game or you can have a few buddies over for some Split Screen Co-Op or challenge each other to a deathmatch. Split Screen does work best with the classic controller however as you will not be knocking teeth out of each others mouths or breaking the hosts furniture.
22555Conduit2_NY_tour_screen_09
Verdict: Buy

Conduit 2 is a B-type movie within the pool of BlockBuster movies but it does a nice job of being one of the best B Movies you will ever see or play. If more work could have gone into the voice acting then it could be a lot better and stand it's own against other FPS games. If you're into Halo, Crysis and other Sci-fi shooters then Conduit 2 is up your alley. It's probably one of the few Wii shooting games that appeal to what little hard core audience the Wii has left but it does such a fine job appealing to that crowd and I hope High Voltage continues this saga on the next Nintendo console and possibly bring it over to the PS3 and Xbox 360 heck I'll even take PC.

GamePlay: A Tom Tom is required every now and then but getting there shooting all types of enemies is fun and the boss battles are done in an epic proportion. 8.5/10

Graphics: Few graphical corruptions here and there but this is one of the nicest Wii games out there with great art style and attention to detail. 9/10

Sound: The sound is that of a B type movie which can sound lame at times. Sound effects are sometimes too low to hear even if you crank up the volume. Not much attention was paid in the sound department. 4/10

Story: A wild goose chase that takes you to the ends of the earth while learning more about the characters and the conspiracy behind the alien race. Not the best story but makes sense of everything. 7/10

LifeSpan: Online Multiplayer, Split Screen Co-Op, a 6 hour story mode and plenty of items to be unlocked High Voltage made sure you will be playing this game for a long time. 10/10

Total Score: 77/100

Portal 2 suffering on PS3, doing better on 360

I guess this is what happens when you piss off a community that has the power to screw with you.

Data gathered by the GfK-Chart Track has shown that 54% of Portal 2 sales are Xbox 360 sales while only 35% are PS3 while 10% are PC. This data doesn't show sales on the Steam platform but from the numbers shown it looks like the 360 version is mopping the floor with the PS3 version even though PS3 has Steam support.

Portal 2 released on April 19 in the US and April 21 everywhere else. This was bad timing due to the PSN being hacked by a group which has yet to be caught. Sony closed the servers so at the time being no one was able to log onto the PSN and play online or make purchases let alone log onto Steam from the PS3. Experts are saying that this is probably the main reason Portal 2 is doing better on Xbox 360 than PS3.

Valve didn't really have nice things to say about the PS3 a couple of years ago and only recently started supporting their console with their Steam service. I wonder if this will have an impact on future titles and support from Valve. I don't expect sales of the PS3 version to do any better since it's been more than 10 days since the titles release so any masses that wanted to get the game probably got it already.

Gamestop is currently having a sale on Portal 2 for $39.99 for both the PS3 and Xbox 360 so maybe that will help sales but from the looks of it for this title the 360 version will always remain on top.

EA TAKES GAMERS ON THE RACE OF THEIR LIVES IN NEED FOR SPEED THE RUN

REDWOOD SHORES, Calif. – April 29, 2011 – Get ready to rip up the road! Adrenaline junkies and speed fiends will find themselves on the wrong side of the law this November when they race for their lives in Need for Speed™ The Run from Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: ERTS). The hottest blockbuster this holiday is a game that takes players on a heart-pounding cross-country race from San Francisco to New York. Launching on November 15, Need for Speed The Run lures players into an underground world of illicit, high-stakes racing. The heat is on – and it isn’t just the fuzz who are after you. Entering the race is just the beginning as you blow across borders, weave through dense urban traffic, rocket down icy mountain passes and navigate narrow canyons at breakneck speeds. Powered by DICE’s state-of-the-art Frostbite ™ 2 engine, Need for Speed The Run takes the action racing genre to new heights with stunning visuals and car physics that hug the road even at top speeds all built around a gripping storyline. The cars are hot, the racing is intense and the story will have you at the edge of your seat… all the way from the Golden Gate Bridge to the Empire State building.

“This is the year that Need for Speed goes to the next level,” said Jason DeLong, Executive Producer at EA. “We think that Need for Speed The Run is going to surprise people with its intense, thrilling story and big action feel. But the game would be nothing without hot cars and crazy-fast chases. So that is what we’re delivering -- explosive racing that will have players flirting with disaster at 200-miles an hour.”

Using the groundbreaking Frostbite 2 engine, Need for Speed The Run will set the bar with unparalleled visual quality and enhanced physics. Need for Speed The Run will also take immersive storytelling to a new level with cutting edge performances that will draw the player into a world with no speed limits, rules or allies. Autolog, the Need for Speed franchise’s revolutionary social competition functionality, is back and better in Need for Speed The Run as it will continue to reinvent how people play games, track career progression and compare game stats.

Developed by Black Box , a studio of Electronic Arts , Need for Speed The Run will be available November 15, 2011 in North America and November 17, 2011 in Europe for the Xbox 360® videogame and entertainment system, PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, PC, Wii™ and Nintendo 3DS™.

MyTake:

Nothing has been announced yet except for this teaser trailer. It could very well be a mixture of Underground and Most Wanted and it seems that EA is going for digitized actors instead of the fail that was Undercover. It does look interesting and it could take the game back to being one of the best racing games with an adrenaline filling story line that might keep you at the edge of your seat. Or it could very well be another Undercover.

Japanese studio Arc System Works brought us Guilty Gear Isuka (released in 2004 in Japan) and many well-known series (Guilty Gear, Sengoku Basara and Blaz Blue), who underwent successful on PC, PS2 and XBOX.

Play with  Guilty Gear series assets: unique design, punchy fights with devastating punches and its well thought arcade gameplay, still effective today. Add to this a cooperative system allowing 2 Vs 2 fights and a heavy metal soundtrack making the game a hit very fun to play.

Guilty Gear Isuka now available at only 3,99€ / 5,99$ DRM-free!

Guilty Gear Isuka was also available on the PS2 and it was one of the strangest Guilty Gear Games that I've played where the user had to press the R2 to make their character turn around. This got in the way when it came to important matches or characters jumped back and forth a lot. Never the less it was still a fun game and it's one to check out if you're a Guilty Gear fan.

PES 2011 3DS Review

An old series makes a return to a Nintendo Handheld Console.
PESfront

The PES series is no stranger to the handheld market with Handheld. It's available through all formats including with the Nintendo DS with PES 2007 and PES 2008. But since then the series hasn't made an appearance on a Nintendo Handheld (as far as I know) but if you owned a PSP you could enjoy the series on the go. Even today regular DS owners cannot enjoy PES on the go unless it's an old version but if you purchased the new 3DS PES 2011 is available now for PES fans who want to play soccer on their 3DS.
PES11
When you boot up PES 2011 the first things you will notice are the title screens and the menu's. Now the 3DS is capable of some nice 3D effects but the whole menu and title screens are done in 2D. In fact you will not see a single 3D effect until the match is able to start when you are shown the uniforms both teams will wear. I guess this could save you battery life if you turn off the 3D until the game starts but the developers could have put some type of 3D in the title screen just like Madden did. The title screens are not the main even of course. There are 4 gameplay types from Exhibition matches to Wireless local gameplay. You can also play Season mode which lets you select a team and compete against other teams around Europe or if you want to have better control of your team you can play The Master League which allows even deeper customization for your team.

There are a total of 32 Teams in 8 different groups. In previous installments of PES I remember that there were also some teams that weren't European such as the US and Brazil. I haven't played any of the latest installments So I do not know how long have they've been out for but it does disappoint me that I cannot play as my country in the game. After seeing that the US was gone I went ahead and started the season with Manchester United.

Underneath PES 2011 is a true soccer game. You pass the ball and you score while trying to avoid killing the opposing teams players and getting red cards yourself. But what makes the game is how the players handle the ball and how much time you want to put in the game to grow your soccer skills.
PES10
PES plays just like the PS2 or PSP version of the game which means that you won't have total control of the players like you would on the PS3 or Xbox 360 versions. Because of this the players suffer at times from lag between the user. While this may not happen all the time it does happen to a point which can cost you the game. One example is when one player retrieves the ball. When the ball is loose time is of the essence and you will hold the R button down to make sure your player gets there first. However if held down for too long instead of recovering the ball the player will kick it a short distance that's no where near for your player to retrieve the ball. In some occasions if this is near your goal line your player will kick it into your own goal.

The touchscreen portion of the game isn't used much besides housing the radar and a few strategies to select from. Unless you use the strategies portion of the game you will find yourself not looking into the radar as PES is a game where quick thinking is required to pass the ball or shoot. Of course if you are quick about it you can look at the radar and plan your strategy accordingly to where your going to drive your players and where are the best open spots to score a goal.
PES9
The AI here is as dumb as a rock. Well at least you can use a rock to defend yourself. The opponents AI is very quick and will show no mercy. That isn't the case with your team or perhaps it's just how my team played. The game switches players based on where the opposing player with the ball is headed. That's OK but if you had the ball and you passed it to another teammate from far away your teammate would not move and the opposing player just comes and steals the ball away from him. I tried moving and everything but the player just doesn't move. This doesn't just happen once but all the time and it can really piss someone off. So your best bet is to just do short passes.

Graphically you can compare PES to the PSP version of the game. The animation is smooth but don't compare it to the PS3/360 version. The character models are nicely detailed and at times show expressions such as disappointment, excitement and even pain. Setting the camera to Player and vertical close does give you a nice 3D effect but it also makes it harder to see who is coming behind you or to keep track of the ball because you don't know which player you're using. Broadcast mode also know as Wide also gives you some nice 3D but at this point you might as well save your battery and turn off 3D.
PES8
The announcer is a nice addition to make your experience more real however you are brought back to reality by the car that almost ran you over. If you are home you can listen to it but outside it's so loud you can't hear what they are saying. There are also some FMV's that do not have any sound. I found myself trying to increase the volume at this point only to find out that it's in full blast. There are also a few soundtracks but they are overshadowed by the crowd and announcer. If anything just turn off the music and the announcers and have yourself a nice soccer match with the crowd.

There are a few game modes in PES 2011 that will keep you entertained for hours. Of course the main events are Season and Champion's Leagues where you take full control of your team just like a Sim game. On both games modes you can set up AI, Time and other options such as injuries. The Exhibition mode is set up for quick matches and it does have Local Multiplayer. PES 2011 doesn't support download and play which means that 2 cards are required for Multiplayer. PES also has StreetPass support if you're game is on standby. This feature is still as of yet useless on any game as it's unlikely that you will pass by a stranger with the same game that's also on Stand By.
PES7
Verdict: Wait for a Price Drop

Sports games are always fun to play every now and then and while PES does have a lot of missing features, it's a game I will keep for a long time just to pop it in every now and then and play a few matches. I do wish that they had added the ability to take in game screen shots and to save your replay to your SD card but it looks like PES was more of a rush this game to make it to the 3DS launch type of title instead of one where they took their time to make. This game is fun however I wouldn't recommend paying full price for a game that still needs a lot of work so if anything I say wait for a price drop. I remember seeing this game as low as $29.99 on a few stores brand new so a little research goes a long way.

GamePlay: A true soccer experience for those that love soccer but could use a few tweaks here and there to make it more entertaining. 8/10

Graphics: Very nice graphics that go on par with the PSP but you might as well get the PSP version for that. The main event is the 3D effect and for it's first effort Konami doesn't disappoint. 7.5/10

Sound: Turn off the announcers and the music because you won't be able to hear them anyway if you're outside. 6/10

Performance: Very dumb AI on your team but unforgiving AI for the opposing team. This game is a handicap and requires a lot of reflexes if you are to ever make it to the finals. 6/10

LifeSpan: Depending on the time limit you set for yourself PES is a very long game and multiplayer is a nice feature if you have a friend that has the same game. 8/10

Element of War PC Review

Mother Nature is a Bitch.

The PC isn't no stranger to RTS titles, in fact that's where RTS games shine the most for it's controller of Mouse and Keyboard. Not all RTS are winners but some are entertaining and can keep you glued to your seat for a few hours at a time or until you complete the game. Here comes Elements of War an RTS based in the near future where Man entered ground he was never suppose to enter by controlling the weather. The idea is a good one and I do wish everything else was well executed but sadly it's not.
EoW9
At the start of the game you are shown the events of what's going on around the world, from Tornadoes to Tsunamis all hell has broken loose. When I saw the FMA I couldn't tell if I was suppose to take the events serious because it was really comical the way people were moving and acting. In one scene you see a man walking up like whatever sees a TV and then steals it.

You are then taken to one of the most painful scenes in the game. The Tutorials. During the tutorials you will learn everything there is to know about the game mechanisms but the problem is that the tutorials cannot be skipped and when they are explained the guy just takes his sweat time to explain it. You cannot move the mouse cursor or make selections until he finishes his explanation. The tutorials are somewhere between 10 and 15 minutes long but trust me those are the longest minutes of your life.
EoW8
When you get down to it Elements of War is a military RTS where they're job is to keep order while everything blows over. You get futuristic military technology including vehicles, weapons, tanks and marines. Your job as the commanding officer is to come up with a strategy to counter attack the rebels trying to steal supplies or trying to take over the land or at least that's what it seems they're doing because the explanation of the events are sometimes vague.

Throughout the campaign you will take different roles from different nations. You will play the European Forces, US Army or Russian forces. Besides armory and weaponry nothing really changes although it is a fresh of breath air to play as different troops.

Elements of War takes place in big landmarks and I'm not talking about New York or LA but in big empty massive landmarks with a city or 2. As you travel you will only get 3 vehicles to keep things simple. Those vehicles can hold many troops and you can embark or disembark them at any time. The only problem is finding your troops after a mission has finished if there are other military forces in the area.
EoW7
The developers had a great idea when developing Elements of War but sadly it feels a bit out dated when it comes to graphics. At times it feels like playing a game from 2001, 2002 with its choppy animation and bad textures. The characters voices are also not synced with the animation as sometimes they will speak but their lips wont move until a second later. This game can probably be played on your grandmothers computer as it doesn't really take much memory to run it. Heck I think it can even run on a Pentium 3 processor. The minimum system requirements are as follows:
  • Requires: Windows XP (32-bit), Windows Vista, or Windows 7
  • Microsoft .NET Framework Version 2.0
  • 1GHz Processor
  • 50 MB Available System Memory
  • 100 MB Available Hard Drive Space
Anything above that is practically over kill and will probably run your games in high settings.
 EoW6
Thankfully the controls are just like any other RTS game. You move around with the keyboard and select your actions with the mouse. Selecting soldiers can be a pain at times however if they are close to something that can also be selected. Another problem is that you are also in charge of babysitting your entire platoon as they will just stand and get shot at when they exit a vehicle in an area with heavy resistance. This is a big problem when there are a lot of enemies in the area and you have to keep a look out for your vehicles as well as all your men.

Elements of War has a very long campaign but it's replay value falls short. There is suppose to be online play but I cannot find that option anywhere in the game. Yes that's a great idea make it impossible for users to find the online play button. But is there really online play or maybe the developers decided not to use it in the final product. I don't really know but if I read that there is suppose to be online play then I am going to be looking for online play but it's no where to be found. I decided to give up as I will probably grow old looking for it.
 EoW5
Verdict: Wait for a Price Drop.

Elements of War is not a bad game per say, but if you enjoy Armageddon type RTS games then it's definitely worth checking out. At this time it retails for $29.99 but for a game with outdated graphics and possibly no online gameplay which I cannot confirm or deny that it's in there because I can't finding and don't know whether or not it's suppose to be there or isn't, is just too expensive when you can probably get a good RTS game with great graphics for that price. Wow that was a long sentence. Elements of War does have a decent story line but so much was promised yet so little was delivered.

GamePlay: Classic RTS game but it can fall short on some events and even fall flat. 5/10

Graphics: Awesome Graphics. If you live in the year 2000 and have a bare minimum computer. 3.5/10

Sound: The soundtrack is awesome and the voice over is decent. 7.5/10

Story: Great story of Man messing with nature and everything goes down the toilet and at times it can be comical. Probably the few promises that the developers delivered with the whole game. 8/10

LifeSpan: Very long campaign if you can make it pass the game's shortfalls and online gameplay is no where to be found or if it was even implemented. My head hurts. 6/10

Total Score: 60/100

KONAMI LOWERS PRICE POINT FOR PRO EVOLUTION SOCCER 2011 ON PLAYSTATION 3, XBOX 360

KONAMI Rolls Out a Promotional Price for its Latest Pro Evolution Soccer Hit!

El Segundo, Calif. - Apr. 19, 2011 - Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc. today announced that Pro Evolution Soccer 2011 (PES 2011) is now available at a lower price point on the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system and Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft.

"We at Konami would like to thank fans for their ongoing support of the Pro Evolution Soccer franchise by providing them the opportunity to enjoy the latest installment for less," said Shinji Hirano, President of Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc. "We also hope those fans who haven't played Pro Evolution Soccer take this opportunity to get into the game. The game also features UEFA Champions League™, and the Copa Santander Libertadores licenses to boast the most lifelike soccer experience to date."

PES 2011 saw the series undergo a huge move towards total control, and featured the most advanced raft of gameplay additions, control options, and animations in PES history - catering for both ardent PES players and newcomers alike. Central to its total freedom of play, PES 2011 introduces a power bar for each player that allows the user to determine the exact strength and placement of every pass and shot. Balls can be spread absolutely anywhere with utter precision, with long balls into space, short passes to feet and intricate one-twos allowing the player to dictate play and control the tempo of a match.

The game's freedom of play is also extended via new AI routines designed to place every move and decision in the user's hands. AI no longer intervenes and PES 2011 players now need to sense and react to threats; while passes will not automatically reach the nearest player and the days of making streaking runs through the centre of the park are over, as PES mirrors the real-life football.

The game's introduction of a real-time player market mechanism on Master League Online offers users a new level of depth and realism to their experience. Once people delve into this area, PES 2011 will offer a level of depth they have never experienced before.

Pro Evolution Soccer 2011 is rated E for everyone by the ESRB and is currently available in retail stores nationwide on the Nintendo 3DS™ handheld system and Wii™ for $39.99, PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system and Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system for $29.99, and PlayStation®2 for $19.99. For more information please visit: www.konami.com.
