Resident Evil HD trailer

Know in Japan as Biohazard Revival Selection.

A great way for companies to make a quick buck is to re-release old titles into HD titles. It's nothing new and this is something that dates back to the Arcade era. Currently Capcom is planning to release a few remastered titles of their own with the Devil May Cry HD collection which has all 3 games in HD on PS3 or Xbox 360. The other title Capcom will be releasing is Resident Evil 4 and Code Veronica.

Here is the trailer of the game and see if you can spot the difference. Spoiler alert. There's not much difference in Code Veronica.

Resident Evil: The Merenaries 3DS not appealing to fans

I guess Capcom didn't think this through.

Capcom has added a feature to Resident Evil for the 3DS which only allows you to save you data only once and then it remains there until the end of time. Capcom has denied that this was a move to prevent the game from being sold to the second hand market, but gamers are not stupid and they're not buying into this. At least the ones who didn't purchase the game. Those who did are hardcore resident evil fans and they're practically screwed.

Currently the game cannot be rented from GameFly, currently doesn't rent the game out and the game has a 1.5 stars on Amazon and a 60% from reviewers. Sales of the game will be unavailable until several months from now.

Resident Evil Mercenaries is practically a spin off of a game mode that is available on Resident Evil 4 and 5 in which you play as certain characters and try to survive for as long as possible with as little resources as possible.

Crysis 2 getting DX11 support

I think I just $#@+ my pants.

EA AND CRYTEK DIAL IT UP TO DIRECTX®11 WITH THE CRYSIS 2 ULTRA UPGRADE AVAILABLE TODAY FOR PC
PC Gamers Can Create Custom Maps with the Map Editor Pack Available Wednesday
One of the most highly-acclaimed first person shooters of 2011 is getting a facelift. Today, EA and Crytek will be releasing the Crysis 2 Ultra Upgrade, giving PC gamers full DirectX®11 support. Enhancing the Crysis 2 gaming experience on PC, the Crysis 2 Ultra Upgrade delivers higher quality visuals and features including tessellation, water rendering improvements, high quality HDR motion blur, and many other special effects and higher quality texture formats with the optional high res texture pack. The Crysis 2 Ultra Upgrade is available via an auto installation once gamers go online* with Crysis 2 on PC.

Additionally, PC gamers can design their own maps and create their own epic battleground with the Map Editor Pack which can be downloaded at

Crysis 2 was a great looking game for a DX10 game but I just wonder what it will look like with DX11 which gives it a huge bump in terms of graphics and such. I think I might re-review the game if that's the case.

Rockstar Games Announces L.A. Noire for the PC

Solve mysteries in old Los Angeles with a rookie cop.

New York, NY – June 23, 2011 - Rockstar Games, a publishing label of Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. (NASDAQ: TTWO), and Team Bondi Pty. Ltd., are proud to announce that L.A. Noire will be arriving this fall for the PC.

“L.A. Noire is a new type of game that makes players see through a detective’s eyes in 1940s Los Angeles,” said Sam Houser, founder of Rockstar Games. “Its unique blend of story, action and crime solving will be perfect to play on PC.”

The PC version of L.A. Noire was developed by Rockstar Leeds. It will run on a wide range of PCs and feature customization, including keyboard remapping and gamepad functionality to both optimize and customize the performance and user experience. Along with increased fidelity and improved graphical enhancements, the PC version will feature 3D support for an even greater sense of interaction and immersion within a painstakingly detailed 1940s Los Angeles.

Developed by Team Bondi in conjunction with Rockstar Games, L.A. Noire is a crime thriller set in post World War II Los Angeles. As Detective Cole Phelps, players must search for clues, interrogate suspects and chase down criminals to solve a series of cases inspired by real world incidents. As he rises through the ranks of the LAPD, Phelps comes face-to-face with the corrupt heart of Los Angeles: from fallen starlets to double-dealing police officers and the vast reaches of the criminal underworld – and finally, the darkness of his own personal demons.

Utilizing a brand new type of facial capture technology called MotionScan, L.A. Noire breathes unprecedented life into character performances and was honored as an official selection of the 2011 Tribeca Film Festival.

Since its release on May 17, L.A. Noire has shipped approximately 4 million units worldwide to date. The game was the number one best-selling video game for three consecutive weeks in the U.K. and the fastest-selling new video game IP in U.K. history*. In addition, L.A. Noire was the highest-selling game in the U.S. for the month of May according to The NPD Group.

L.A. Noire is rated M for Mature by the ESRB and will release this fall for the PC at retail and digitally.

Call of Duty Black OpsPS3/Xbox360/PC Review

So much content so little time.

CoDBO front

Call of Duty is one of the bestselling games since the day it debuted because of its fast paced and quit thinking type gameplay. As time went by the gameplay kept getting more and more intense to the point where if you react a too second late, you’re probably already dead. Call of Duty Black Ops continues that tradition but this time taking place during the Vietnam War where you take the role of a sleeper cell who knows the location of a secret broadcasting tower that will release a poisonous gas called Nova 6 against the US. With a strong story and fast paced action, Black Ops is a game that doesn’t disappoint.
 CoDBO 1
The story of Black Ops takes place in an interrogation room where the story is unfolded during flashbacks of what Alex Mason went through from 1961 to 1968. During the Bay of Pigs invasion Mason fails to assassinate Castro and is left behind enemy lines only to follow being captured and taken to the Russian prison of Vorkuta Gulag. After several years Mason joins a plot to escape Gulag with Viktor Reznov who makes a regular appearance in the game. Throughout the story mode you will travel through many different places from Vietnam to the white house to meet President Kennedy.
At the end of the day when all is done, you will get a chance to play as President Kennedy in another rendition of Zombies in which you must survive a hoard of Zombies coming to beat you to death. This mode can also be played online with other fun characters like Castro and Richard M Nixon.
 CoDBO3
Black Ops is a fast paced game where every second counts. You will have enemies coming at you from every angle but at times it can get annoying because you don’t know from what angle you’re being shot at. Before you know it you will be on the ground restarting from the previous checkpoint. That’s not to say it happens all the time but it happens enough to get you frustrated from time to time however shooting all those enemies can be a lot of fun.
 CoDBO4
The weapons are what make the games and there are a lot of weapons for every type of player to feel comfortable playing with. Some weapons you can also use in Duel Wielding mode such as handguns and light automatic weapons. You also get your choice of Assault Rifles, Shotguns which tear the enemies to pieces, Light Machine Guns, Sniper Rifles, Grenade Launchers and Rocket Launchers. If you wish to only use Sniper Rifles however you are only limited to use them in certain levels as they are not found everywhere. Grenades are an item I would not use as they are weaker in Black Ops compared to other CoD titles. There have been many occasions where I’ve thrown grenades after cooking them for 2.5 seconds into the enemies way where they are not at least bit affected by the blast. Using grenades may help in certain situations but I’d recommend that you stay away from them and instead opt for a weapon that has a grenade launcher attachment.
 CoDBO5
The weapons also have attachments which will help you throughout the game such as: Redsight, Ranged Scope, Grenade Launcher, Double Mag and infrared which is only used in one level. Of course you also have your choice of choosing weapons with no attachments at all if you just want to do some straight killing. All weapons can be found with an attachment expect for regular guns.
When it comes to the graphics in Black Ops, I don’t think they can get any better and I am not saying that as a good thing but rather I think this is the best Activision can do. The graphics seem unchanged from Modern Warfare 2. The most impressive feature though is flying limbs whenever you shoot an enemy when you use a shotgun or a grenade but you can also achieve flying limbs with regular guns too.
 CodBO6
The settings of Black Ops are ones to be appreciated, specially the Vietnam level where you literally have hundreds of enemies filling up your screen. Nothing says hurry the hell up than a Vietnamese soldier trying to kill you with grenades exploding all around you. While graphics aren’t being pushed here the details are amazing, especially when flying with the chopper or running through the jungle.

The sound effects are OK depending on what location you’re playing but where the game really shines is in the voice acting which drives you deeper into the story. My favorite voice over was the one used for Kennedy, Castro and Richard Nixon during the meeting before zombies decide to attack the white house. This was done as a comedic relief but it never the less works perfectly and sets you up for some zombie face smashing. The soundtrack at times feels out of place with rock music playing in the background in some levels. It’s done to get the player pumped up for the coming event but it kind of takes away from the experience. Yes CoD 4 and CoD MW2 did have some type of rock music playing but it was done to match the theme of the event and in Black Ops it just feels slapped in there.
 CodBO7
Activision games only have a 9 month dev. Cycle which means that in 9 months the developers must finish the game and ship it and in doing so there are a lot of noticeable bugs that are left in the game. In the beginning CoD Black Ops had a lot of issues signing in to the PSN which was fixed in a later update. Several updates later the game is still buggy as sin. Some of the bigger bugs that I found during gameplay were: A helicopter diving underground only to have its tail stick out of the ground like a shark, a crazy soldier that would never die, soldiers falling underground or appearing in the middle of the room and of course the grenade bug where the grenade doesn’t kill anybody. So far I have not experienced any crashes or freezes and it is kind of entertaining watching some of these bugs.
 CoDBO8
There are 2 modes of online gameplay in Black Ops the first being Zombies where you and several partners team up and try to kill as many waves of Zombies as possible and good old regular death matches where you go up against other humans in trying to get the highest score on the map and level up your profile and unlock rewards. You can also purchase anything with a new currency system that has been added as well as gamble in a wager match where you bet your COD points and either win some or lose some.
 CoDBO9
There is so much to do in Black Ops that it requires several weekends to explore. The story alone is 6 hours long but can take as much as 8 hours if you keep dying or if you just like to explore or spend a crazy amount of time shooting at enemies. Zombies is also another mode that is entertaining in its own right whether playing alone or with friends and online mode is one that can be played even after everything in the game has been completed. As of this writing there are 3 available map packs to purchase which adds more to the big bucket of content that is already available in Black Ops.
 CoDBO10
Verdict: Possible Buy

Call of Duty has so much to offer yet with it being on the market for 7 months it still has not received a price drop and it’s still selling for the full price of $59.99. From time to time there will be a sale which you can get it for $39.99 but those sales come once in a while. Chances are the price won’t drop until Modern Warfare 3 gets here. It is a fun game if you love FPS and there is a lot of content available. If you can find it for $39.99 it’s a buy but for $59.99 I’ll leave it as a possible buy, possibly a rent.

GamePlay: Fast paced action that doesn’t let up for a bit but be prepare to die several times. 8.5/10

Graphics: Nothing really changed from MW2 but the details of the environments are one to notice and the flying limbs are also a nice feature: 9/10

Story: A great story that ties in many historical events into the eyes of a single man that ends on a shocking note. 10/10

Sound: Great voice acting with some comedic relief at the end. Music feels out of place in some levels but the action will keep you from paying attention to it. 7/10

LifeSpan: 6+hours story mode, Zombies and Online deathmatch will keep you coming back for weeks to come. 9.5/10

Total Score: 88/100

Lake Forest, Calif.-June 16, 2011- CompuExpert, and GAEMS., Inc. announced today that the G155 mobile gaming system for the Microsoft Xbox® 360 video game and entertainment systems (both Elite and the new Slim design) and the PlayStation®3 Slim computer entertainment system will be available for pre-order through Amazon.com, GameStop.com and NewEgg.com, with deliveries beginning as early as June 23rd and continuing while supplies last. Perfect for watching movies as well as playing your favorite games on the go, the G155's unique custom fit design provides unprecedented protection for your gaming console. Everything about the G155 is designed to improve gameplay and reduce gaming lag including the customized short HDMI cable.

The G155 is the first complete, self-contained mobile gaming environment for both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 fans, allowing you to stay in the action even when you're on the move. Just strap in your gaming console, store your accessories, select your favorite games or movies, and you're good to go. The sleek G155 design integrates an LED HD display, component stereo speakers, dual headphone jacks and enough internal storage for your controllers, power supplies, and an Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 Slim console.

"The G155 gives you the freedom to experience HD gaming on an Xbox 360 or PlayStation3 anywhere you choose, whenever you feel like it," said John Smith, vice president of marketing for GAEMS. "Imagine playing head to head with your friends and not settling for lame split-screen options or having to wait for your turn."

The G155 was recently featured on CNN Tech in May 2011. According to columnist Scott Steinberg, "...This carrying case unpacks to reveal a built-in 15.5-inch LED HD screen, stereo speakers and dual 3.5mm headphone jacks that let you annihilate friends or save the universe anywhere you travel...  You can spend family vacations with your head happily buried in "WWE All Stars" or "Killzone 3."

The G155 mobile gaming environment will be available for a suggested price of $299.99.

The G155 is an interesting piece of technology and for $299.99 it's not a bad deal since it does have a 15.5 inch LED HD screen but for some people this may be a bit expensive and you will have to travel a lot in order to really make use of it but if you're visiting family members who have an HDTV then there's really no point in getting one.

Cliffy B once again confirms no Gears of War on PS3

Enough already.

I'm not a huge fan of Gears of War and definitely not a huge fan of Cliffy B. but I do have to say that I agree with him on the next quote about Gears of War on PS3:

“I would say in the foreseeable future there’s zero chances of Gears of War being on the PlayStation 3. Can we bury that now? Seriously. It’s like, we have a great deal with Microsoft, they’re a great partner…”
“It’s one of those things that would be exciting news. Hopefully DualShock would get tweaked a little bit, but anyway, enough about that.”
You can keep your Gears of War Cliffy B. I'll stick to Uncharted 3.

Wii U 50% more powerful than PS3

Does it matter if it's more powerful than PS3?

When games are being created they are first made for the Xbox 360 and then ported to the PS3. This causes a lot of issues for the PS3 version because both versions are being worked on at the same time and practically use the same art and game engine. It has been this way since 2005 and it will continue to be this way in the future.

So what does it matter if the Wii is more powerful than the PS3? Unless it's an exclusive not much. But for your informational purposes the Wii is more powerful than the PS3 according to a few developers.

Sterne Agee analyst Arvind Bhatia commented today, "Some of the developers we spoke to indicated to us that the console will have 50% more processing power compared to the PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360. This is yet to be confirmed by Nintendo."

Nintendo used PS3 and Xbox 360 footage on their video presentation but didn't show much in terms of processing power. But of course if Call of Duty will look the same across all 3 platforms then it won't really matter if it's more powerful than the PS3.

Wii U Will not be an entertainment platform.

Possible Co-Op with 2 controllers also talked about.

In a recent interview, Nintendo President Sotoru Iwata answered many questions about what is going on with Nintendo and where the future of video games is headed. One important question that was answered was the possibility of using 2 Wii U controllers to play some LAN games. This is what Iwata has to say about using 2 controllers:

"What I can say is that we are also thinking, as you imagined, that with one console you would get one of the new controllers as a complete set.

As I am sure you can imagine, the cost of the new controller will exceed the cost of a standard controller up until now.

Regardless of the technical question as to whether or not we could do that (use two of the new controllers), for the time being, we will focus on what we can do with a single new controller with the system.

In the future, we may look at what other opportunities there are for gameplay and, how having two of those controllers might create fun or interesting new styles of play, but of course in doing that, it would require a consumer to purchase an additional controller. Therefore, we would need to carefully consider how we could create such an experience and, potentially, how we could ensure that there would be enough value within that experience for the consumer to accept that cost and make that purchase."

I'm sure there will be possible 2 player games but in reality who would want to shelve out the cash to purchase another Wii U Remote? The Wii Remote cost $40 by itself when the Wii first launched and even the years followed. Add a Nun-Chuck attachment and you're looking at a $60 controller that eats batteries as I eat hamburgers. With the Wii U Controller being tab like and Nintendo not backing down from making a very nice profit, we could see the Wii U controller cost an upwards of $100 and I wouldn't be surprised if it went up to $150.

This is really bad news for those people who break, damage or their controllers die out after a year. Nintendo does not cover physical damage and it will only cover defects for one year. After that year you are on you're own and will have to purchase a Wii U controller at full price if you are to ever use your Wii U again.

Asked about the Wii U being an entertainment system Iwata made it clear that people do not need anything extra as people already have those systems at home. Here is what he said:

"Wii U does not have DVD or Blu-ray playback capabilities.

The reason for that is that we feel that enough people already have devices that are capable of playing DVDs and Blu-ray, such that it didn't warrant the cost involved to build that functionality into the Wii U console because of the patents related to those technologies."

Nintendo does sort of remind me of Apple where they tell you what you need and what you don't need. A lot of people still don't have a Blu Ray player and with the Wii U I'm pretty sure it would make a very nice controller. But of course this is only done to cut cost at their end but still charge the consumer an arm and a leg just like the Wii which had a price point of $250 at launch and all it was, was a GameCube with a new controller.

I was really disappointed in the Wii U and I do hate it when the press kisses Nintendo's ass by saying that they are excited about the Wii U and they can't wait for it to come out. Same goes for some of the developers who praised the Wii U at the Nintendo conference. Why don't they tell Nintendo what they really think? The same thing happened with the Wii back in 2006. Developers were praising the console and a few years later they were having trouble moving software because it just wasn't selling as well as other titles on PS3 and Xbox 360. People who bought a Wii played it for a bit and then it was left alone to gather dust.

I really wish I had the chance to meet Mr. Iwata and tell him what I think about this new console but that's just my opinion.

Nintendo used PS3/Xbox 360 footage for their Wii U Console.

Nintendo says the Wii U should offer the same experience.

Nintendo showed off its newest console the Wii U which features a tablet like controller to play games on. Developers praised the new controller and even showed off some footage for the new console which Reggie said the console runs on 1080P so it shouldn't have no problem handling the horsepower developers throw at it.

"We're talking a year away from when the system's going to launch," Fils-Aime told GameTrailers.com. "The system's going to be 1080p. You're going to see games that take full advantage of a system that has the latest technology and can push out some incredible graphics."

Some of the footage used from other consoles is Assassins Creed, Ghost Recon Online, and Madden football which will be available for the Xbox 360 and PS3 later on this year.

Strip Poker Supreme Pack #10 Review

In this game, the women don't just bet money.

I've always known that there were games for mature audiences, but I never really found them. That's because I've never looked for them. I know that a few years ago probably in 2008 Jenna Jameson released a PC game where you can do whatever you want to the women. Strip Poker Supreme is not the same as that as it uses real live footage of women actually getting undress and dancing for you but you of course have to beat them in a Poker Tournament. However this isn't a game where you go off (no pun intended) against 6 opponents but instead the stripper is your opponent.
 strippoker13
Strip Poker Supreme is not a game that you can go to your local game store and purchase it. You can either purchase it online or order a DVD copy of the game. It is an expensive game though but hey so are strippers if you've been to a strip club. If you do purchase the game you will then be taken to the download menu but not after running around in circles for more than a few hours. When you purchase the game you will be provided with a users name and a password which you will have to use to activate the product online. You can do both online and offline activations but the offline still requires that you go online and enter the code on the developers website making offline activation pointless. Activation can take anywhere from 10 mins to 24 hours. Once activated you can then download from 5 female opponents and play against them in a strip poker tournament.
 strippoker12
When playing the game it took me a while to figure out what the hell I was doing as the interface is not user friendly. Either that or I was way too distracted by the half naked woman on my screen I forget which. The point of the game is to lower your stripper companions cash count to a point where she starts bidding her clothes away. There are several rounds in the game depending on how what your female opponent is wearing. I felt ripped off when one of them bid off her stockings making this game one round longer then it should really be. Each round your female opponent gets $400 but to speed things up you can still continue betting even past the $400 leaving her with a negative number which will be deducted for the next round. Every time she loses a round a short video will play of her taking off the item she put up. This will continue until she has no more clothes left and the game will start all over again.
 strippoker11
As a player, you are also punished if she wins rounds. For each round she wins meaning she collected more than $400, she will put on a piece of her clothes. If you run out of money the game will end and you will have to start over.

The Poker part of the game is just that. A poker game. You don't really have to be skilled at Poker to play these types of games but it does help to know what you have so you can bid high or bid low. You are given 5 cards and you must select which cards you want to return to the table to draw more cards. The computer will do this automatically but you can always opt out for a different hand than what the computer gives you.
 strippoker9
When you get 5 cards you can choose to bid before and after the draw. A lot of times you will get a good hand and if you want to see the stripper take off he clothes, bid as high as you can and as much as you can. Besides that there's really nothing else to the game.
 strippoker7
The game is really short. There are 5 women but depending on you poker skills, you can get through all of them in a matter of 2 hours tops and even then you're taking too long. I will say though that this is not a game where you want to spend your sweet time deciding what hand to play. The really annoying part about this game though is that at the end of the game, the opening FMV will play again and you cannot skip it unless you close the window.

Verdict: Play the Demo

This game is more for an afternoon play or to play when you have your friends come over for a guys night out but then again why not just go to a strip club. I will say that the women are decently hot and at times it is challenging. If you have a few extra bucks to spare and have a few laughs then buy this game. There is a demo available which features one of the 5 women in the pack if you want to try it out which I would recommend you do if you plan on purchasing this game.

Metal Gear Solid gets an HD Make Over

Spoilers!!! Metal Gear Solid 1 won't be getting the same treatment.

Konami Digital Entertainment GmbH has announced it is to revisit Hideo Kojima’s seminal METAL GEAR SOLID series with a special HD remastered collection for the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system and for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft.

The METAL GEAR SOLID HD Collection will be released in November, and will comprise HD remastered versions of METAL GEAR SOLID 2: SONS OF LIBERTY, METAL GEAR SOLID 3: SNAKE EATER, and METAL GEAR SOLID: PEACE WALKER. It will mark the first time these legendary titles have been released for these formats, and will act as a stunning introduction to one of the most enduring video game series of all time.

METAL GEAR mastermind and series creator Hideo Kojima is overseeing the updates for each title. The METAL GEAR SOLID HD Collection will be released on Blu-Ray disc for PlayStation 3 and across two DVDs for Xbox 360. In addition to the enhanced, high-definition visuals, all titles in the collection will support trophies and achievements, marking another first in the series!

METAL GEAR SOLID 3: SNAKE EATER opens the set, with series hero Snake entering a Soviet jungle where intelligence reports a vital scientist is being held captive. Set in the 60s of the Cold War, SNAKE EATER sees Snake using his stealth abilities in a whole new locale – under the cover of the jungle foliage where various camo fatigues can be used to sneak into areas undiscovered. The riveting plot then reveals a familiar face from Snake’s past at its centre.

METAL GEAR SOLID: PEACE WALKER takes place a decade later and details the operations of Big Boss in Costa Rica. The year is 1974, and Costa Rica has been overrun by an organization of highly-trained mercenaries. Working with a squad of neutral troops, Snake soon uncovers a CIA plot, and becomes embroiled in a mission to thwart a nuclear threat. The timeline then moves on to METAL GEAR SOLID 2: SONS OF LIBERTY, which is set in modern times and marks Raiden’s first appearance in the series.
Solid Snake and Otacon receive intel that a new kind of METAL GEAR vehicle is being transported across the Hudson River. Snake infiltrates the tanker, which is then seized by a group of Russian mercenaries lead by Revolver Ocelot. Two years pass, and a new terrorist faction calling themselves The Sons of Liberty have taken over the Big Shell base.  New Fox Hound operative, Raiden, is sent to investigate.

“The METAL GEAR SOLID games have been a huge success, and the METAL GEAR SOLID HD Collection is a stunning way to celebrate this most inventive and entertaining series,” explained Martin Schneider, General Manager for Konami Digital Entertainment GmbH. “Every aspect of the three games has been updated to ensure they look as fresh on their new host formats as they did when first released. Stealth fans should be prepared… November will mark the return of one of gaming and KONAMI’s most iconic series.”

While I am excited that Metal Gear will now be in HD, I am disappointed that Metal Gear Solid 1 won't be making the cut. I  guess if you want to play the first game with some nice graphics you could check out the Gamecube version if you can find it. I do wonder though if well be getting the extended editions of MGS2 and 3?

Street Fighter X Tekken Cinematic trailer.

Everything looks way better in slow motion.

PlayStation Vita Price Tag Announced.

Going head to head with the Nintendo 3DS later on this year.

Sony's NGP finally receives a name and it will be called The Vita. While the Vita is full of features any Gadget lover will love, the most important thing is the price point and the Vita does not disappoint coming in at $250 for the Wi-Fi version and $300 for the 3G version which will be available on the ATT Network, but that is nothing a Small Hack cannot fix for all of us Tmobile owners out there.

On top of it's very nice price tag, the Vita will have a solid game library unlike the Nintendo 3DS which was mediocre at best. Some of the titles are Uncharted, LittleBigPlanet, ModNation Racers, and Street Fighter X Tekken.

I purchased the 3DS and I was a little disappointed with the features not to mention the games. Besides Game Reviews I won't be using the 3DS much but I have a feeling the Vita will be my console of choice for gaming on the go.

Call of Duty Elite Q&A

Activision answers a few basic question some fans may have about their premium CoD Service.

Before we get to some FAQs regarding Call of Duty Elite, we want to share three guiding principles of the service.

GIVING YOU MORE THAN EVER BEFORE (AND TAKING NOTHING AWAY) - With over 30 million online players around the world, the Call of Duty community is too large and diverse to create a one size fits all approach, and Call of Duty Elite must be purely additive to the experience. The Call of Duty “out of the box” experience that our players expect: a great single player campaign, co-op missions, and the deepest and most accessible multiplayer anywhere - at no additional cost - remains the same as ever. Our promise to you is this: Elite only adds to the Call of Duty experience. Nothing will be taken away from the experience you know and love. If you want to continue to play Call of Duty as you always have, you will still be able to do just that, including the ability to buy Map Packs ala carte. With Call of Duty Elite, we’re adding a new choice for those who want to get even more out of the game. Even haters can play for free.

THE BEST FREE SERVICE ON THE MARKET – How can we say that this is the best? We believe that the free elements of Call of Duty Elite will be superior to any free service currently on the market because we are offering more features than any other service out there. Additionally, many of Elite’s free features which will debut with Modern Warfare 3 are industry firsts and offer a new level of innovation.

A selection of Elite’s free features will let you:
·         Access Elite through the web as well as Elite’s free custom iOS and Android applications for smartphones and tablets
·         Communicate any way you want across mobile, console and the web with your friends
·         Track and share thousands of stats with friends – k/d ratios, score-per-minute, win % and loads more, all represented in easy to understand charts and infographics
·         Create your own custom leaderboards to track friendly rivalries – who is moving up and down in your group of friends?
·         Analyze advanced heat maps detailing your match-by-match performance – where you killed or got killed, when it happened, and more
·         Analyze your weapons performance – which weapons you are best with in which situations
·         Upload and share videos of your greatest moments through our exclusive theater mode with the touch of a button
·         After you analyze your performance to your heart’s content - Customize your loadout – search through all the weapons, attachments and perks, and push them directly into the game menu from the web or your mobile device with the touch of a button
·         Join dozens of groups and find other players with common interests to play with and compete against – find people who make the game the most fun for you – TDM, Lakers’ fans, Weekend Warriors
·         Create a Clan with players who share your interests and taste for competition
·         Bring your Facebook friends right into the game, easily taking your existing network into the Call of Duty experience.
·         Seamlessly be placed into Groups with those who share your affinities and interests based on your Facebook profile.
·         Start tracking your Call of Duty career – everything you wanted to know about your performance across the franchise starting with Black Ops

And that’s just the beginning. The service will continue to evolve and we will continue to add new features.

A PREMIUM MEMBERSHIP THAT RESETS THE BAR - The premium membership of Call of Duty Elite (which is completely optional) will set a new gold standard for what the multiplayer and community experience for a console game can be. Why are we not revealing all of the features that are part of the premium service today? Simple. Because the service was designed to be deeply integrated with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, and will not be demonstrable until we are closer to the launch of the game. We know seeing is believing, and over the next few months we will be revealing and demonstrating more of the premium features and by the end of the summer, we will reveal the entire service in full.

The reason we announced the service today was so we could begin recruiting for a free beta with the multiplayer community of Call of Duty: Black Ops, which will allow us to test the service at scale. This is a critical step to us launching the service successfully this fall. So we appreciate your patience.

Is Elite a new website?
·         We’re on the web of course, but we’re designing Call of Duty Elite to be widely accessible and customized for a number of platforms - via web browsers, through the game, and through mobile applications as well – including iPhone and iPad, as well as Android tablets and smartphones.

Will you be charging for multiplayer?
·         No, we are offering players more choice and are not taking anything away from our fans. If you like playing the way you always have, with a great campaign, co-op and multiplayer experience out of the box, then you can. Additionally, many of Elite’s key features that we’ve listed will be free to all Call of Duty players.

What about stats? Do I get free access to my stats with Elite?
·         Absolutely. Elite’s Career section gives players an in-depth look at statistical details of their own performance and gameplay as well as that of the entire Call of Duty community, including heat maps, load-outs, stat trends, custom leaderboards, and integration of your Facebook friends. The Career section is free to all registered users.

How will Elite compare to free offerings that currently exist?

·         We believe that the free elements of Elite alone will be better than any free service currently on the market today. Elite ups the ante of any free service by offering a range of innovations on well-established multiplayer features, such as leaderboards, heat maps, and rich player data. Additionally, other Elite features are completely new to the industry. For example, with Elite’s new Groups featured integrated with Modern Warfare 3, you will be able to join custom groups based on your likes, interests, or affiliations, and then have those groups follow you directly into the game. Soon you’ll be playing in a social group, making new friends (and rivals!) who play Call of Duty and share your interests, home town, or play style.

Is there a beta? When can I try Elite for myself?
·         Elite will officially launch this fall with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, but you can try key features earlier with our free public beta test. In order to deliver the best possible launch this fall, we need to test the service at scale and get your feedback on key features. The Beachhead team is working with Treyarch to hold a public beta this summer for Elite with the multiplayer community of Call of Duty: Black Ops. The earlier you sign up, the earlier you can play. All you need to do to sign up is register your email address and gamer tag. Sign up now at www.callofduty.com/elite.

Will the beta include everything that comes at launch in November?
·         Because Elite was designed to be deeply integrated into Modern Warfare 3, not all of the features will be able to be part of the free beta with Call of Duty: Black Ops. You will get to try a number of key features, but the beta will still be just a slice of the full service that launches with Modern Warfare 3 in November. We plan to test some specific features, such as the Program Guide and Groups. However, a number of new features and services will be coming online specifically with Modern Warfare 3. Additionally, a number of our dedicated applications will be launching this November as well.

Can you tell me more about what “Connect, Compete, Improve” means?
·         Connect: Elite willgive our players unprecedented control over their Call of Duty multiplayer experience, transforming it into a true social experience. Players can compete against friends, players of similar skill levels, players with similar interests. Connect will include:
o   Find and join Groups of people with similar interests
o   Create Clans, which are player groups that can compete with other Clans in organized competition
o   Track your performance, progress and activity within your Groups and Clans through mobile and web interfaces
o   Upload and share your videos with your Groups and Clans
o   Access high-quality original video programming, tailored to people who love Call of Duty

Elite will help players to connect with the Call of Duty community 24/7.

·         Compete: Call of Duty players want to compete, but are looking for a way to do it that fits their skill and style.
o   The Program Guide, gives players a choice of dozens of daily and weekly competitive Events, individual and clan Operations, official Leagues, and Tournaments all tailored to different skill levels
o   These competitions will offer both digital and real prizes - everything from digital trophies and badges to a new Jeep

·         Improve: Everyone wants to improve their game, and Elite will be like having a personal online coach.
o   It provides players with a dynamic strategy guide that tracks their statistics and performances - down to minute details - showing gamers how they stack up against their friends or others in the community
o   Improve will offer continually evolving professional tips and advice. Tools and information are provided so players can learn and up their game, regardless if you’re a newer player or level 15 Prestige

The Program Guide sounds cool, but I’m an average player. How can I have a chance to participate in competition?
·         Just like a sport, we believe competing in Call of Duty should be fun and accessible regardless of skill. Highly skilled players may want to join the most competitive Leagues and Tournaments, while a more moderate player can find Operations, Events and Clan competitions that are tailored based on their skill level or particular play style. We want all Elite players to find a range of competition that fits them, and gives them a chance to succeed.

Is Elite only for hardcore players?

·         Connect, Compete and Improve are universal needs regardless of skill, and Elite has been tailored for Call of Duty’s diverse base of players. If you are a hardcore “Prestige” player or a casual weekend warrior, you can enjoy personalized communities, daily competition and events, community-generated video content, and a dynamic strategy guide that tracks your statistics and performance trends. Elite also will offer high-production value, original entertainment programming designed exclusively for the Call of Duty community. Different players will use Elite in different ways, but we want there to be something for everyone.

Will Elite support Call of Duty: Black Ops?
·         Yes. Because Elite was designed to be deeply integrated into Modern Warfare 3, not all of the features will be able to be part of the beta with Black Ops this summer. When Modern Warfare 3 launches this fall, players will be able to have a unified relationship through Elite – they can create a single profile in Elite and build their career in Call of Duty that will carry forward as they play every supported Call of Duty game.

How is Elite different with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3?
·         The Beachhead team has been working closely with Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer Games to build Elite from the ground up to support Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. When Elite launches this November, the service will include a number of all-new features and innovations being built directly by Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer Gamesinto the new game. For example, your Elite community Group and Clan affiliations and identity will be incorporated directly into Modern Warfare 3.

When will Elite launch?
·         The service will launch with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 this November 8th, 2011.

Where will Elite be available?
·         Elite will be available on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC. In addition, there will be custom Elite applications available on iOS and Android tablets and smartphones.

How can I become a member?
·         With the roll out of the Call of Duty Elite beta this summer on Call of Duty: Black Ops, players can sign up on www.callofduty.com/elite to queue up for participation. Once the platform officially launches with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 on November 8th, players will be able to enter the service in through a variety of ways, which we will be announcing later this year.

So, if I just want to buy Map Packs standalone, I can still do that?

·         Yes. Call of Duty Elite has been built around the tenets of value and choice. To us that choice means that players who purchase Modern Warfare 3, who want to extend the game may prefer the option of a map pack. We will continue to offer that option. So if you want to just buy a map pack only, no problem.

If I get the premium membership to Elite, do I really get all of the DLC?
·         Yes. Elite is an all-inclusive membership, and that means you get all of the playable game DLC for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 as part of your premium membership. No need to buy additional DLC.

Will there be Customer Service?
·         Absolutely. It’s a priority for us that Elite membership comes with 24/7 worldwide customer service. We will have a team dedicated to programming, administration, and service, starting with our public beta this summer.

Why announce now if you can’t show us all the Modern Warfare 3 launch features and pricing?
·         Elite was designedfrom the ground up to integrate with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. Therefore, many of the services which will be a part of the premium membership will not be able to be demonstrated fully until the launch of Modern Warfare 3. The reason we launched the service ahead of that time was to invite people to participate in a public beta of the service using Black Ops, which will help to test the service at scale and fine tune it before its official release this November. The premium membership to Elite also will include many industry firsts, and will represent the ultimate Call of Duty experience.

Are you letting people buy prestige weapons or levels through Elite?
·         No, players are not able to buy prestige weapons or levels through Elite. While Call of Duty Elite wants to help people become better players, there’s still only one way to level up to new weapons, XP and prestige, and that’s to earn it in game.

When will launch details be released?
·         Throughout the summer we will be talking about Elite in detail, so stay tuned for more information.

Who is Beachhead Studios?

·         Beachhead is a new development studio, who is creating the Elite service for the Call of Duty franchise. We are entirely focused on making Elite the best gaming service in the world, and improving it every day. Our Beachhead Studio will be supporting our Call of Duty games throughout the year.
